Lady Mustangs end their playoff run 5 April 2008Posted by ccolunga in Kingwood, Updates.
The Kingwood girls met their match Saturday afternoon. The times I’ve seen the Lady Mustangs play, they dominate thier oppenent, leaving little room to allow any team to shine like they do. Therefore, I often wondered what it would look like for Kingwood to get a taste of thier own medicine. Clear Lake had the same athleticism and aggression the Lady Mustangs have shown all year. It got the best of Kingwood as they fell to the Lady Falcons in the Region III Championship 2-1.
In the first half, the Lady Mustangs didn’t look like themselves, showing less urgency. Despite that, Hope Ward stepped up and created some opportunities and their defense put up a notable performance. With 11:09 left in the half, Clear Lake put in their first goal.
The frustrated Lady Mustangs became more physical, especially in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Taylor Padia was awarded a free kick in which lightly passed it off to Hope Ward. She then made an incredible cross which found the inside corner of the net.
With the momentum leaning towards Kingwood, the Lady Mustangs pressed and attacked the goal but couldn’t put up the winning goal. As both teams’ fatigued set in, Clear Lake found the back of the net with just over five minutes left in the game to make the final score 2-1.
Despite the crushing loss, coach Rennie Rebe expressed how proud she was of the team and how her players never gave up.
