The Atascocita boys basketball team breezed to a 67-37 win over Pasadena Dobie tonight in a game that wasn’t even as close as the score indicated. Here’s the online recap. (And the online recap from the Kingwood game.)

The Eagles put on a little dunking exhibition before the game, although they tried enough fancy stuff to knock their percentage below 50 percent. They played just as loose once the game started, dominating a team that had a height advantage inside.

I’ll write more on this later, but freshmen Jamal Branch and Everett Pleasant are the real deal. Most of you already knew that, but I’m a little slow on the uptake sometimes. Branch had 13 and Pleasant had 9 in this game. Shawn Toran, who had 30 points the other day, also scored 9 . Mick Hoffman had 10, Austin Nickell 8, and junior guard Matt Evans contributed with 8 points, all in the third quarter.

I also got to speak with Atascocita teacher and counselor Cynthia Colbert, the wife of head football coach and athletic coordinator Dean Colbert, and that was a blast. She filled me in on a few upcoming college commitments from Atascocita athletes, and it’s quite a first senior class of athletes that the school has produced.

She promises Atascocita will make the playoffs in boys basketball, so here’s hoping she’s right on the money again.
