There’s been some big news – and most of it very good – from area baseball alumni in the past few weeks.
Let’s kick it off with 2006 Kingwood graduate Mike Ojala (right), who was named the Texas Collegiate League pitcher of the week for games played July 16-22. Ojala, a rising sophomore at Rice University, went 2-0 and allowed no earned runs in 12 innings pitched for the Denton Outlaws last week, striking out an impressive 16 batters.

Welcome to the Observer‘s sports blog. The Observer Newspapers cover nine high schools in four school districts and other youth sports in our communities, and we strive to provide the best local sports coverage in the Houston area.
We will use this blog to highlight stories in our print editions, but more importantly, we will use this space to give up-to-date reports on games and stories involving our teams. We will provide stories that do not make it into the print edition and update stories we have already run. And, from time to time, Joe and I – and other staff writers – will sound off on whatever issues affect high school and community sports fans in the area.
Most importantly, we want to cover the topics our readers care about, so please e-mail us at observersports [at] hcnonline.com to start the ball rolling.
