Atascocita got the girls basketball season off to a good start with a 63-40 blowout over Pasadena Memorial. The Lady Eagles looked good defensively – led by senior Kiyah Jackson, who had at least five steals, if not more – and in the transition game.

Nadia Taylor had 15 points, Ashanti Richardson netted 12, and three players – Jackson, Kanisha Clark and Kayla Bogs – each scored nine. It was especially interesting to see Bogs play well just days after the end of volleyball season. She never takes a break. As soon as last volleyball season ended, she jumped over to play in the soccer playoffs.

One area of small concern could be inside, but Atascocita was banged up and only had two true post players available. 6-foot sophomore Katie Smith and 5-9 senior Olivia Haigler both played inside, and I especially liked Haigler’s rebounding.

Anyway, a good start to the season for Atascocita. The Lady Eagles are at the Conroe Tournament this weekend.
