We get a lot of sub-varsity football game reports from parents and coaches, and we really appreciate the time and effort they put in to get us that information. Unfortunately, sometimes we do not have the space in the print edition of the newspaper to run the full report.
This week, we did not have room for several reports out of Kingwood, and a couple from Humble arrived after our print deadline. So here is some of the JV and freshman action from last weekend:
JV: Klein 44, Kingwood Blue 20
The opening drive of the game was a sign of how the night would go for the Kingwood JV Blue team – a strong, eight-play drive that ended one yard away from paydirt when Klein recovered a fumble.
Despite a touchdown pass from David Fitt to Drew Kinsella, Klein led at halftime 28-14.
Kingwood appeared to have regained momentum when Klein’s first drive of the second half ended with a punt following a William Chapman tackle. Kingwood marched down the field for a touchdown, but Klein returned a fumble on the extra point to make its lead 30-20. Klein then put up two more scores to put the game away.
JV: Kingwood Park Black 31, Magnolia West 15
The Kingwood Park Panthers JV Black team improved to 3-0 last Thursday by defeating Magnolia West 31-15 at Mustang Stadium.
The Panthers fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter but rebounded to put together a 73-yard drive to start the second quarter and never looked back. The drive finished with Kyle Ebow scoring on a three-yard run to tie the game 7-7.
The Panthers added 10 more points to lead 17-7 at the half.
The Panthers took the opening drive of the second half and marched down the field on an 82-yard scoring drive, eating up more than eight minutes of the third quarter. Ebow capped the drive by scoring from two yards out to make the score 24-7. The teams exchanged fourth-quarter touchdowns for the final margin of 31-15.
Quarterback Gavin Whitelaw led the way for Kingwood Park by going 12-19 for 141 yards passing. On the ground, the Panthers were led by Ebow, who rushed for 67 yards and had four touchdowns runs. Whitelaw added 91 yards rushing.
Other offensive standouts included Roman Montroy, Clint Duvall and Tyler Nichols. Leading the way on defense were Jake Morgan, Austin Salter and Charles Smith-Green. Salter and Juan Castillo each had an interception.
The Panthers will play host to Pearland Dawson (3-0) Thursday at 7 p.m. at Kingwood Park High School.
JV: Humble Purple 26, Jersey Village 21
Talton Raven had a 30-yard touchdown run and an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Anthony Anderson scored on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Dominique Washington and an 80-yard kickoff return. Washington also hit Erron Shamlin on a two-point conversion.
Kevin Menard, Broderick Hall and Dante Alexander all had interceptions for the Wildcats.
JV: Kingwood White 0, Klein 0
The second game of the season for the Kingwood JV White team was a defensive struggle against Klein.

The Mustangs survived the first half without a first down due to three interceptions, one each by Matt Moore, Carter Brown and Kyle Finnegan. Strong punts by Thomas Henneberg and great coverage ensured the Bearkats had poor starting field position each possession.
Big second-half sacks from Ryen Artavia, Victor Manon and Kyle Heffner, along with good secondary play, held Klein scoreless, ensuring the 0-0 final score.
JV: Humble White 16, Jersey Village 9
The game started with an 80-yard return by Mark Francis right up the middle, and Humble went ahead 8-0 on a two-point conversion pass from Jacobe Green to Jeremy Tullos.
The defense was paced by the hard hitting of Devonte Davis and produced four turnovers, including interceptions by Xavier Maxwell and Tim Stringfellow and fumble recoveries by Devonte Davis and Terry Diamond.
The scoring was capped of by a slant pass completed in the end zone (Green to Tullos) in the fourth quarter, and Maxwell scored the two-point conversion on a reverse.
JV: Magnolia West 20, Kingwood Park Silver 14
Freshman: Klein 17, Kingwood White 16
After falling behind 10-0, the Freshman White team put together an offensive drive that led to a 45-yard touchdown run by Bryce Phillips. The two-point conversion was pushed across the goal line by Paddy McClernon, bringing the score to 10-8 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Kingwood capitalized on a Mitchell Meadows fumble recover ended with a touchdown by McClernon. On the two-point conversion, quarterback Tanner Rollins kept the ball and took it in to give the Mustangs a 16-10 lead. The Bearkats rallied, however, to take a 17-16 lead and hold on for the win.
