New kids on the block 8 August 2007

Yesterday I was able to make it out to a Dekaney football practice with Spring Editor and fellow sports blogger Sarah Parker. What we saw was very impressive.

It was very clear that head coach Willie Amendola and his staff are already getting it in their guys’ minds that they are on a mission to win a state title. The intensity and energy levels were through the roof.

I got a chance to watch the freshmen working on their offense, a lot of I-formation similar to what I’ve seen at Westfield, and the execution was pretty solid considering these guys were in their first week of practice.

Look for big things from Dekaney when they break onto the varsity scene.

Dekaney will be competing in 2008 at what classification ?

JY: We will not know Dekaney’s classification until enrolment numbers are submitted in October or until the UIL publishes 2008-09 alignment in February. My guess is they will start as a 4A school, but that’s not confirmed.

I say that the opening of Dekaney messes things up in the next alignment. I see Westfield ,Spring and Dekaney possibly joining Aldine, Nimitz, Ike, Macarthur, and possibly New Caney. While North Shore, Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood, Sterling, Westbrook, Lufkin and PAM are all put together. .. Channel View of course Replacing North Shore in 22-5a
